Bonus wagering: calculate the commitment before claiming

The headline percentage is only one part of a promotion. Real value depends on the wagering base, multiplier, game contribution, maximum stake, expiry and withdrawal rules.

Quick formula

Required turnover = wagering base × wagering multiplier. A 100-unit bonus at 20x bonus-only wagering requires 2,000 units of qualifying turnover. If the rule is 20x deposit plus bonus after a 100-unit deposit and 100-unit bonus, the requirement becomes 4,000 units.

Turnover is the total amount staked, not the amount lost. The same balance can contribute through many rounds, subject to the terms.

Identify the wagering base

  • Bonus only: multiplier applies only to promotional credit.
  • Deposit plus bonus: multiplier applies to both amounts.
  • Free-spin winnings: winnings become a separate bonus balance.
  • Cashback or rebate: may be cash, restricted credit or subject to a new requirement.

Do not calculate until the exact base is clear. Two offers with the same 20x headline can require very different turnover.

Game contribution changes the calculation

If a game contributes 100%, every unit staked reduces the remaining requirement by one unit. At 20% contribution, five units must be staked for one unit of qualifying turnover. Table games, live casino, low-margin slots, sports selections and excluded titles can have different rates. The contribution table is therefore as important as the multiplier.

Maximum bet, expiry and cashout cap

A maximum-bet rule limits each spin, hand or wager while the bonus is active. Exceeding it can invalidate the promotion even if the interface accepts the stake. Expiry controls how long the requirement can be completed. A maximum cashout limits the amount convertible from the bonus. These restrictions should be compared with the planned session length and stake size before opt-in.

Free-spin checklist

  1. Eligible game or games.
  2. Number of spins and value per spin.
  3. Activation schedule and expiry.
  4. Wagering on resulting winnings.
  5. Maximum conversion or cashout.
  6. Country, currency and deposit eligibility.

“Free” describes the spin cost, not necessarily immediate withdrawal. Resulting winnings may enter a restricted balance.

Worked comparison

Offer A gives a 50-unit bonus with 10x bonus-only wagering: 500 units of turnover. Offer B gives a 100-unit bonus with 20x deposit-plus-bonus wagering after a 100-unit deposit: 4,000 units. Offer B has the larger percentage, but eight times the turnover in this example. A useful comparison uses the complete formula, not the headline.

When no bonus may be simpler

A no-bonus deposit can provide more withdrawal flexibility and fewer game restrictions. It may suit a short visit, a player whose preferred game contributes little, or anyone who does not want to track expiry and maximum-bet rules. Promotional credit should fit an existing entertainment plan; it should not be a reason to increase a deposit.

Frequently asked questions

Does 20x wagering mean losing the bonus twenty times?
No. It refers to qualifying turnover, not required losses.

Can a withdrawal cancel an active bonus?
